Poor Gretchen's pot

green pot

It's all broken. I don't know how.

In other sad news, I am done with buying watermelon from WalMart. The past two I've gotten there have not been sweet at all. The last one was a yellow watermelon which I was pretty disappointed with. But it sure was pretty.

yellow watermelon

I have to give it a little credit, the very middle (or heart) was mildly sweet so I just ate that out of it. I ate it's heart out!

new additions

hugo

My last betta, Desmond, died a couple weeks ago. Earlier this week I went out to get a new one. I usually try to pick the one with the strangest coloring. And keeping with the Lost theme, this new guy's name is Hugo (or Hurley).

baby aloe plant

The last time I was home, my mom cut off a baby aloe plant from her plant and gave it to me. I'm not sure why, but I named it Esther. Hopefully she'll get big enough to make her own babies and I can give them away.

cactus

And lastly, I went to a few garage sales last weekend and found a nice brown pot and decided it needed an occupant so I went to the garden center and found this little cutie. I knew I wanted one that flowered and this happened to be the only one. It was also the only one that didn't have an ID tab so I don't actually know what kind of cactus it is or what conditions it likes best. Seems to be doing pretty well, though.

Fairs & festivals

and a goat?

The past two weekends I visited my parents house we visited a couple fairs and festivals. The first was the 7-Mile Fair in Wisconsin last week. I didn't take any photos of any of the booths, but there was a random petting zoo so I couldn't resist.

llama at the 7 mile fair?

I felt a little bad for them. Their accommodations weren't the most spacious.

Lincolnshire Art Festival

Today my mom and I moseyed over to the Lincolnshire annual art festival. There were a lot of great booths. Some were a litle blah and there were a LOT of beaded jewelry people, but on the whole, a good experience. It really made me miss going to art shows and museums and I think that's something I want to make a bigger priority (other than getting a move on my own artwork).

Lincolnshire Art Festival

This guy did some really amazing paper cut art. Here, he is demonstrating his folded paper mosaic technique. If I had money, I probably would have bought like everything in his booth. I'm not kidding.

how on earth...

ZOMG

...did I forget to post a photo from the Strawberry Jazz Festival? It was a few weekends ago. Susan dressed Delilah up as a strawberry to participate in the pet parade. For some insane reason, she did not place. =(

plants!

Wow I have really been neglecting this. Sorry all. Hopefully more soon? I always say that. Anyhow.

red lilly

orange lillys

Some lilies around the house. Whoever was here before did a nice job of landscaping.

tomato!

My little tomato plant. It's almost triple the size of when my dad came and planted it about a month ago. I want to get a jalapeno plant to be his friend (and so I can make homemade pico de gallo yum). I may have to invest in a trowel. Good thing I work at a home improvement store, huh?

now i've done it...

Well, I finally got around to it. I finally put stuff up on my Etsy site. I took about 2 hours and got a solid base of stuff on there so now I can just put up things a little at a time and not feel so overwhelmed anymore. It was really fun listing stuff, but photographing everything was so my favorite part. Is that any surprise?

Anyhow, feel free to head on over there. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

up-to-date

pompom flowers

Today I was able to get some things done I've been meaning to do for a while. This first one is a project I found here. They were pretty simple and fun to make, plus they're so dang cute!

trifari pendant

I bought this pendant at an estate sale a few weeks ago and finally got around to making a cord for it. I made an actual clasp, too, using some cheap jewelry making supplies from Hobby Lobby. I think my new obsession will be looking for things of this nature at garage sales and turning them into something wearable.

new poster!

Lastly, I finally got something up on my walls. I found this amazing poster at Hobby Lobby for half off. It is so me that I couldn't say no! It was pretty much made for me.

trip to the park

uh

On Saturday my housemates and I had a bunch of people over. We started watching Fight Club but then decided it would be a better idea to take an intermission for a walk to the park before it got dark out.

chillin

It got dark fast so we didn't stay long. ^_^

I know I mentioned a project a while ago and I hoped to have launched it by now but I've been so tired from work that i just haven't had time. Baby-steps I guess. Anyhow, what it is, is an Etsy shop through which I sell vintage items. One of my big passions in life is antique and thrift shopping but I never get to buy any of the cool stuff I find. Now I can share my finds with other people and still have the satisfaction of finding and buying something awesome. The store-front has been created, but I have yet to list any items. Keep checking back, though, because I feel I'm getting closer and closer to actually listing things.

play the tambourine

sunrise over work

After fiddling with the bluetooth on my phone I finally figured out how to transfer photos to my computer. This panorama was actually an option on my phone camera. Not the greatest quality, I know, but I was so surprised to see the sun when I went on my break at 7am this morning I had to share. To see it larger, simply click on the image!

first birthday!

macsbday2

Mac is the baby of Nick and Jordan who live in our hippie house.

macsbday6

Playing cards with Nick's family.

macsbday3

The birthday boy and grandpa.

The party was at Nick's parents house. It was nice to get out of Kankakee for a little bit and eat free food. It's crazy to think that this is even my life sometimes. Six months ago if someone had told me I would be living with a baby in a house in the historic district, I would not have believed it.

alligator skin

walk 1

Just something I played with in photoshop. It's been a while since I've done that.

I am going to try undertaking a new project. I'm not sure how it will work out so I'm not going to reveal it quite yet but I am pretty excited. I hope it takes off and garners some income for me. But it takes money to make money so hopefully I make smart decisions.

I haven't been taking as many photos of my social events as I wish I was so I am going to make a better effort to do that from now on. My main problem is not wanting to lug my giant SLR with me all the time. I used to. just fell out of it I guess.

Friday, January 2, 2009

so this is the new year.

this happened

I am posting this for a photo's sake, but in case you haven't heard, I got a monroe a few days ago. I like it a lot, but my lip is swollen like a mofo.

I have been thinking about the direction of this blog and I think it is time for a change. There is a community on LiveJournal that is committed to doing 101 things in 1001 days. The members pick their own lists of things and update when they accomplish something big. I wasn't sure if I wanted to commit to that particular arena for this challenge, so I decided to just do it on my own, and share it here. I have about half my list completed so far and am looking for suggestions on other things to do. They can be silly or serious, they can last the entire 1001 days, 1 single day, or any number of days in between. Some of the things on my list so far include: attend 5 concerts, join a club, say "I love you" to at least one person every day, take one photo a day for 30 consecutive days, and attend a gay pride parade. When I have my list completely together I will post it all. I hope to start this project on February 1st and end 1001 days later.

I look forward to any suggestions!
